North Hammond YMCA

Located in Hammond, Indiana, this facility will provide years of enjoyment to the community! This is a multipurpose facility including a gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, health club, lap pool, activity pool / waterpark, elevated running track, 2nd level sports performance and weight training along with multiple studio rooms and two (2) levels of offices and community rooms. The use of precast concrete for this complex provided the structural needs for all of these separate use rooms. The design allowed for multiple functions ongoing concurrently without disruption. The activity pool / waterpark area included precast demising walls with a double TT roof to provide a clean environment. Double TT's were also used as the second level of the sports performance area and provided the enclosure/roof of the lap pool area. Most of these double TT areas provided clear spans in excess of 70' in length. In order to provide a clear access in the lower areas, ATMI Precast worked with a design team to utilize precast columns, deep spandrels, and beams to provide large expanses of openings on the first level for patron viewing. The exterior walls are providing the thermal barrier for the entire facility. This panel was designed to be load bearing and thermally broken complete with embedded electrical devices and conduits. In addition to being the structural element, the panel also included an architectural finish which included heavy reveals, multiple openings, white cement, tint, and a light abrasive blast with an acid rinse. This project was designed by Schaefer Architects and constructed by Tonn & Blank Construction. This project was erected in the Summer of 2023 by Waubonsee Development and is scheduled to open in Spring of 2024.
